About me
I was born in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata. While in high school, I developed a keen interest in writing computer programs. Majoring in Computer Science was the obvious choice for me. I received a B. Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering from West Bengal University of Technology. I went on to graduate school at North Carolina State University, where I completed my Masters and Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. Rudra Dutta.
Currently, I work with the Network Control and Optimizations team at Fastly, Inc. in San Francisco, CA. I enjoy living in the Bay Area, particularly because of the diversity it has to offer. I love exploring the numerous hiking and running trails over the weekends.

Backpacking
Outside of work, my favorite outdoor activity is backpacking. I love packing up essentials and heading to the wilderness for days on an end. For at least a few times each year, I try to "get away" in the wilderness. In 2018, I completed 200 miles of the John Muir Trail in California along with my husband. This through-hike in the Sierra Nevadas took 16 days to complete, 6 months to plan for(!), and really made me appreciate what is truly important in life. Going north to south, the hike ends at the summit of Mount Whitney, which is the tallest mountain in the contiguous United States.
In trying to stay fit and active, my husband and I have also summited various "tall" peaks in California including Mt. Whitney (14,505'), Mt. Shasta (14,180'), Mt. Dana (13,061'), Mt. San Antonio (10,066'), Cucamonga Peak (8858') and the Half Dome at Yosemite (8839'). In 2017, I was lucky enough to visit Perú and climb up the Salkantay Pass (15,090') on my way to Machu Picchu. |
Scuba Diving
Diving under the ocean happens to be my favorite summer-time activity. The entire untouched universe of colorful living species on the ocean bed is truly amazing! It's like a whole different world exists down there. I have been fortunate enough to dive in Mexico, Antigua, Honduras and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

Music
I enjoy singing Hindustani classical music. I started learning music from my mother at the age of two. Since then, I have taken lessons from several renowned musicians in India including Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, Chandana Chakraborty, Kaushiki Chakraborty Desikan, Jayanta Sarkar and Sanjukta Ghosh.
Apart from classical music I enjoy other genres of music such as Ghazals. These are love songs which are mostly written in Urdu. Ghulam Ali ji's ghazals like "Dil Mein Ek Leher" and "Chupke Chupke Raat Din" leave me mesmerized. I have learnt ghazals from Ustad Sabir Khan. |
